Stitching Up a Happy New Year: Embellished Tea Towels

Whoa, does anyone still even remember me? I barely remember myself. Nine months since my last post. Nine months. Enough time to create a human life. While I didn't create anyone new, I did spend plenty of time creating myself. 

I have been promoted...twice. I have directed two more shows. I have run another half-marathon. I have been to Disney World. I have had surgery.
The surgery was recent, just last week. It was frightening, but I am healing. Go through the procedure and now nurturing myself through the healing process, I have really been able to focus what makes me happy: making things. I am committed to making more time to make.

Although I have multiple WIP that I really should be working on (more on those soon, I promise,) I decided that a great way to start the year would be to make some embroidered and embellished tea towels for my kitchen. I focused on things that I really love. It also showed me that I REALLY love decorating tea towels...weird.

Sunday Funday: Rick Rack Roses

Today, just a cute little post to make cut little roses. I added mine to hair clips for instant adorable!

Supplies:
rick rack (I used two colors of vintage)
Hot glue gun
Hair clips

Cut two strips of rick rack about 20" long.
"Braid" the two strips together.
Roll to form bud. Occasionally add a drop of glue.
Fold down some of the edges to form petals.
Glue to hair clips, a pin, or anything that needs a little spring!

Not perfect, but later attempts came out wonderfully.
I love them all the same.

Cute as a Button

What a productive week! Most "normal" people would view Sunday as a day to rest and reflect. Not me...Sunday=Funday...a chance to make or do something frivolous and fun. Today, that meant doing fun stuff for this blog. I made a fun and super-easy project for How Tuesday, worked on next week's Foodie Friday (and got an awesome breakfast with my sweetie out of the deal), bought some new supplies (!) and tried some new techniques for Work-in-progress Wednesday and finally did my own  take on a project that I had admired on Freckled Nest. 


Leigh Ann had designed a fun and easy project to evoke spring. It was a rainy gross day here in the Northeast and I wanted a little sunshine. 

I decided to add some rick rick hills for fun!

I added some additional elements like rick rack hills, grass, leaves, and felt flower cut-outs behind the buttons. I am rather thrilled with the results!

It will add a little fun and whimsy to my office and remind me that there is always time to make something great.
