Doctor Who Craft Round Up: 2015 Edition

Late last week, I saw that Netflix was on the verge of losing shows from the BBC. Thankfully, that has not come to pass, thank Ood. Being the huge geeky gal that I am (as well as a massive anglophile in general), I was relieved to hear this news. I immediately watched the first three episodes of the reboot. I am not just a newbie, my local PBS station re-broadcast Tom Baker episodes when I was a kid. All I can say is that daleks are frightening as all get out when you are seven years old. This would-be catastrophe inspired me to do re-boot of my own. One of most popular posts ever was my original Doctor Who Craft Round Up. I decided it was time to do a new one based on things that I would like to make in the coming year. Allons-y!!

1. First, who doesn't love the fourth Doctor's scarf? But when is is actually practical to wear it? Enter the scarf bracelet. Perfection!

2. If you read this blog regularly, you know that that embroidery isn't just my hobby. It is my retirement plan. How lovely is this piece with 10's catch phrase AND his sonic.

3. Okay, wouldn't make a Weeping Angel for my own use, but I would love to see my students freak out ;)

4. C'mon--needle felting and a bunting? It's a no-brainer. 

5. I really think that I need a cute little Adipose buddy for when I am feeling chubby.

6. Wall + blue painter's tape = awesome. No tutorial really needed.

7. My next afghan, for realsies. I already downloaded the free pattern!

8. Bunting--another no-brainer.

9. A TARDIS charging box would make me feel like the fanciest geek in the department, and that's saying something.

teany.tiny.stitches. for real!

Proverbs tell us that "The first step is hardest." or "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." Well, I took the step. I figured if I was going to design and market a line of patterns, that first I needed a name and a logo. Two friends and I have a dream of opening an stitching shop with a tea bar and calling it "teany.tiny.stitches." Yes, we know that "teany" is misspelled. But we are going for a cutesy little joke. TEA. Get it? I love the name, so I decided that it suited this new venture. Since it is all about stitching, I knew that the logo needed to be stitched. So that is where I am in the process, if you can call it that.

Stitchy Saturday: TARDIS Plushie...finally!

I will finally have sweet dreams tonight! I finally finished my TARDIS plushie. The Doctor and all things Whovian will be dancing through my dreamland.

Foodie Friday: Custard...fish fingers optional...

Anyone who knows their Doctor Who knows that custard was almost a main character in the Series 6 premiere. I thought that I would try to make it from scratch just to up the ante for the Series 7 premiere on Saturday. I added some homemade Ginger Syrup on a few berries for a real treat!

TARDIS Thursday: TARDIS Bleach Tee

Who doesn't want a TARDIS tee? Sadly, my bleaching didn't photograph very well but I am super happy to have a little Doctor in my wardrobe.

WIP Wednesday-TARDIS Plushie

Do you ever start a project, just to have it migrate to the bottom of your work basket, forgotten? Sadly, I started this TARDIS months ago with plans to make it into a plushie. I am happy to say that it is ALMOST done!

How Tuesday: Peeking Doctor Bookmark

I think that everyone who stops by Weasinart knows what a huge geek I am. I make no apologies. Doctor Who just happens to be one of the things that I adore. I have enjoyed all the Doctors, but 10 is my favorite. Today's project is just a quick little craft to have a little doctor in your day.

Regrouping

Three steps forward, four steps back.

 Just as I was starting to re-focus and re-align my priorities, life has thrown me another curve ball. Everyone deals with hardship, it is true, it just seems like I have gotten more than my fair share recently. I have to have surgery...nothing life-threatening or even huge, but still costly and a more than a little stressful. That being said, my sweetie and friends are super-supportive and caring and they bolster me everyday.

I have been taking baby steps towards normalcy as I prepare for my "work"--I have cooked more seasonal dinners, reconnected with more friends, resumed my half-marathon training (though barely), begun work on my script for the fall play and have walked back into my studios.

Projects lay unfinished. Fresh supplies lay heaped on my cutting table and bundled on my work bench. New tools cry to be used and patterns beg to be begun.

So I have started to organize...chose what projects I want to complete first...brainstormed themes for upcoming posts...planned more yummy dinners...and move forward.

I want to finished my bird embroidery, complete my TARDIS plushie,
make a tote for school, and make some metal pieces with
my new embossing die...I need another Craftcation!!

I took the time to smell and arrange the flowers. And my
favorite retro cookbook has inspired a theme week!

Can't wait to make a retro inspired apron as
an awesome holiday gift!

As I deal with it all, I will run my
way to serenity...I hope.

Foodie Friday: Dalek Cupcakes

There is no better way to vanquish your mortal enemies than to recreate them in cupcake form and eat them.
The Doctor would do well to heed this advice.

These Daleks can't go up the stairs, just into my tummy.

Cupcakes seemed the ideal way to make a Dalek since they
are inherently Dalek-shaped.

The bodies consisted of one full-size cupcake, one trimmed-down
cupcake, and one mini-cupcake.

I "glued" them together with some frosting and frosted
them all the way around.

I used mint sticks for the eye stacks and weapons and
used M&Ms for the buttons for the "bumps."

TARDIS Thursday: This doorstop is bigger on the inside

Today's post is short, sweet, and freakin' awesome.

An awesome addition to my studio.

An ordinary brick, some craft paint, a foam brush, some tape,
and a marker are all you need.

Tape off the sign and windows and then draw in the panes and panels.

Simple but so much fun.
A quirky gift idea too!

WIP Wednesday: TARDIS Embroidery and Quilt Block Swap

Sometimes, you agree to things without paying much attention to what you are doing.
Earlier, this year I signed up for a quilt block swap. What I neglected to notice is that blocks had to be done shortly after the play...oy...
The fact that it took me three sewing machines to get them done was frustrating, but they are finished and will be in the a mail an entire day before the due date!
I have also started a project that I have wanted to make for quite a while. The TARDIS is a great shape to stitch and will make a cute little plushie when I am done :)

How Tuesday: Doctor Who Washi Tape

I am not a a girl who is super trendy...geeks rarely are. I was loving Doctor Who LONG before it was the greatest thing going. Granted, the current trendy bit makes it easier to get Whovian merchandise! One trend that I am intrigued by but have not yet embraced is washi tape. 

What better way to celebrate it than to combine it with one of my favorite things? 

Ready to adorn!!

My supplies: double-sided tape, Doctor Who comics (picked
up at my local thrift store for a song), brayer, and scissors.

Chose the images you love and place them FACEDOWN.

Place the tape over the sections that you want.
Roll with brayer to assure maximum stickage.

Cut along the tape to make strips.

Roll, enjoy, adorn to your (two) hearts content!

Metalwork Monday: Wibbly Wobbly Doctor Who Earrings

Okay, so it's out there. I am a geek of the highest order. 
I went to RIT (nerd central), I direct Shakespeare, I have my own Sonic Screwdriver.
True story.


This week is dedicated to my biggest nerd obsession: Doctor Who.
You're welcome.

I chose two types of washers, brass and copper. I also
chose two different fonts and two different
treatments.

After stamping, I painted alcohol ink onto "wibbly wobbly"
and liver of sulfur gel onto "timey wimey."

I used the dremel to sand of most of the ink and age the brass.
I brushed on the patina gel to make the copper look older.

Unfortunately, they don't go "ding" when there's stuff.
