Sunday Funday: Doing What I Love

This was one of those weekend that a crafter dreams of: research, projects, new skills, progress. It was a balm for my busy week and cluttered mind.

I had an absolutely stellar trip to my local library!
I am so excited to dive into these books as I plan projects, posts and gifts :)

We also had a great stop at our local reclaimed sewing supplies store.
I was able to score this awesome horde for only $16.74!

Weekends were made for this kind of dinner with my sweetie.
Cheeses, rice crisps, apples, olives, almonds...LOVE!

Followed by pumpkin carving...so much fun!

I indulged in some awesome treats for myself. Yay for 50% off coupons and inspiration!

Spent some time redoing my double crochet/lemon peel project.
It will make a great holiday gift!

Stay tuned for some great roasted pumpkin seed recipes. As you can see, it was an absolutely wonderful weekend full of many blessing, quality crafting and bonding time, yummy dinners and much project progress. I am one lucky girl!

Why was the Weasinart unplugged?

For the last month, the Weasinart has been unplugged. It was never my intention to just stop blogging. I had just finished producing a show and time was tight. I had just postponed a big life change. And I was (and am) trying to prioritize my life. While all this was going on, it suddenly became summer with its new responsibilities and opportunities.

I am an artist and jeweler, additionally though...

I am a runner.

I am a gardener.

I am a partner.
Recently, I have been focusing on my running training. I have a very hilly 15k in just 10 days and have only been able to run for the last month. I have also planted two gardens and all the work associated with that task. I am also focusing on my relationship. My sweetie lights up my life and I want to be the best partner to him that I can be.

I am missing making things though. I may not make as much in the summer as I try to balance my creative zeal with the rest of my life. Baby steps. The Weasinart is plugged back in and new treats will start coming again soon.

Thank you all for your support and stay tuned.

How Tuesday: DIY Seed Tape

April showers bring May flowers, so now that it is May--bring on the garden!
There are times when I really enjoy getting my hands down in the earth and planting seeds and bulbs.
There are other times when I just want to get things in the ground.

I love the idea of seed tape, especially for tiny seeds like lettuce. The problem is that commercially-produced tapes are so expensive. This handmade tape is simple and inexpensive--a great craft to do with the kids!

Supplies: Cornstarch, water, crepe paper, seeds, paint brush

Combine 1 tablespoon cornstarch and 1 cup of water and heat over medium heat.
Stir frequently until a gel forms. This is your seed glue!

Lay out you crepe paper--use white or kraft paper so
the colors don't bleed.

Dot the paper at intervals (as indicated by your seed packet)
with the cornstarch glue. Place your seed on top.

In the case of lettuce seeds, I just sprinkled them on top.

Fold the paper over to enclose the seed.
After the glue dries, roll them to prepare for planting.

Dig a furrow and you are ready to go!
