Everyone falls off the fitness wagon every now and then, myself definitely included. I don't get crazy, but a few too many cookies at the holidays really add up. Given that, I always start the year a little down. You'd think that I would learn my lesson, year after year.
I am only human, I guess.
This year, I have made a few more changes that I hope will stick. I have not eaten ice cream or fried foods (other than 3 onion rings) all month. That is a HUGE deal for me
. Ice cream could be a food group.
I have made lots of smoothies, soups, salads, and other healthy make-ahead meals. I have started tracking my food and activity. It makes me feel more accountable.
I have also tried to limit my chocolate intake (I have a self-control problem) for the next three months. If I am successful, I will be rewarded by a fancy new dress from ModCloth (I am very susceptible to bribery.) It is not that I feel pressure from the outside world to be a toothpick, I just don't feel as healthy as I would prefer.
My office is about to start a "Biggest Loser" competition tomorrow which coincides with the timetable that I have for training for the Vermont City Marathon and Relay. A good friend and I are in the lottery to get a relay spot. Full disclosure: at the moment, I am 5'3" and weigh 143.2 pounds, about 20 pounds heavier than is best for my height.
That all being said, on to the good stuff: healthy make-ahead smoothies!
I discovered these great recipes from Monica at The Yummy Life. She is a genius. Freezable oatmeal smoothies? Okay! Check her out!
Her best trick? Grinding the oatmeal and chia seeds before you start assembling smoothies. Genius!
I made banana/pb, apple/pb/cinnamon, blackberry, and cherry vanilla.
So excited :)
